Join us with Interim Director of HR, Mekayla Plotner, and Benefits Advisor, Ben Bohonowicz, Director of Client Services at Employee Benefits Services. Ben worked with Horizon Goodwill to transition to a self-funded plan, reducing spend by over $250,000 in the first year. Actively managing the plan, Ben and Horizon reduced Medical and Rx spend from $564 per employee per month (PEPM) to $402 PEPM, mitigating costs by 29%.
Beginning this year, they’ve implemented a Direct Primary Care (DPC) program with local DPC providers that is entirely funded by Horizon Goodwill.
Horizon Goodwill Industries offers a wide variety of services ranging from business solutions, job training, and human resources assistance. They serve 19 counties across Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Horizon Goodwill was striving to provide a health plan that was affordable while also ensuring quality care options for employees, something they weren’t going to receive under their carrier-controlled plan. Working together with Ben they moved to an employer-optimized (aka active self-funded) plan and immediately began tackling costs and implementing high-quality solutions. Since going self-funded they’ve mitigated Medical and Rx PEPM spend by 29%, implemented Reference-based Pricing (RBP), added a health plan concierge service, and this year launched a direct primary care program with local DPC providers that is entirely funded by Horizon Goodwill.
